First Steps

First Steps is a group for children under 5 accompanied by their parents, grandparents or carers.

Feel free to browse our website – you will find plenty of information about us here, and get in touch if you want to know more.

We meet together on Wednesday mornings, during term-time, between 9:30am and 11:00am in the Upper Hall of the Church. Please ring the doorbell at the side entrance; there is no charge for coming to this group.

Our time together begins with welcoming refreshments, tea/coffee and snacks, for the grown-ups, whilst the children have an opportunity to play with a wide-selection of toys. The morning also includes a Bible story, songs (with toddler-friendly musical instruments), craft activities relating to the Bible story, snacks for the children and tea/coffee for the adults. We finish with a time of more energetic play (ride-on toys, etc).

We have child-care facilities (e.g. nappy changing) and provision for nursing mums, so we hope that your time with us will be as comfortable as possible.

All helpers are DBS checked and the Church has a Safeguarding policy in place.

First Steps is a friendly group open to all. Do come and meet us, have a chat, meet other young families, and your children will have fun in a safe and caring environment.

You can follow us on Facebook @first.steps.stmellons or Netmums, and contact us by e-mail at firststeps@stmellonsbaptist.church or using Facebook.

"And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me."
Mark 9:36-37 (ESV)
