Students

St Mellons Baptist Church has a long history of welcoming students – if you’re coming to Cardiff to study, please do consider making us your spiritual home during your time in our city.

Feel free to browse our website – you will find plenty of information about us here, and get in touch if you want to know more.

In St Mellons we can offer you the chance to step outside the ‘student bubble’ and become part of our church family, meeting everyone from newborn babies up to nonagenarians!

Fellowship and Hospitality

While most students enjoy being surrounded by friends their own age, we understand that Sundays can sometimes be difficult days for students who are used to spending the day with their family, and who miss the love, fellowship and support of their home church.

We serve tea and coffee (and biscuits!) after every service, so if you come into the back hall you will quickly meet and get to know us. You will also be invited every week (along with other students) to enjoy Sunday lunch in the home of one of our families. This is a great way for you to get to know us all even better, and to become integrated into our church family. If you need a lift home after lunch this is easy to arrange, or you are more than welcome to stay all day and come to the evening service too.

Apart from Sunday services, the most important meeting of the week is the church prayer meeting and house groups (Wednesday evenings) and you would be welcome to join us for these.

Support

While being a student can be a wonderful experience, we know that it can also be really difficult at times. It can be stressful, confusing and lonely. You might even feel like giving up at times. We understand that, and genuinely welcome the opportunity to support you through your time at university in any way that we can. You are likely to make friendships in our church that will last a lifetime.

Specifically for Students

At the moment we don’t have any meetings specifically aimed at students, however two of our members (Will & Sarah Christofides) look out for students and will help you to integrate into the church family.

Transportation

Walking to our church is not an option for most students, as we are about 5 miles from the city centre! Catching a bus is one way of getting here (see below*), however Will & Sarah are happy to offer you a lift to church every week – please do get in touch if this would be helpful for you.

Every year there are representatives from our church at the Christian Union ‘Walk to Church’ on Sunday mornings, complete with cars ready to bring you to our services.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Directions by bus
*If you want to catch a bus, you can take either the number 30 or X45. Download the Cardiff Bus app is an easy way to buy mobile tickets, view timetables and see live bus stops as you travel. You can also buy a ticket using cash – ask for a ‘Day to go’ ticket which allows travel to as many stops in Cardiff as you like.

You can download the app for Android phones from Google Play or Apple phones from the Apple store.

You need to get off at the Church Inn (formerly Bluebell Inn) bus stop on Newport Road (ask the driver to tell you or use the Cardiff Bus app) then walk up a road called Ty’r Winch Road (which is between two pubs) for a hundred metres until at the top of the hill you see the church on your left. Very simple!

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalm 27:1 (ESV)
